This was confirmed by the Ethiopian Minister of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Eng. Getahun Mekuria. Photo Credit: @DrGetahun<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Remember in October, Ethiopian Prime minister\u00a0Abiy Ahmed approved a\u00a0new ministerial portfolio with a record number of female ministers consisting 10 out of the 20 ministers, about 2 months later, this cabinet enacted Ethiopian Space Policy into law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The history of interest in space science and technology in Ethiopia dates back to 2004 when three aspiring astronomers gathered a group of 47 space\u00a0 enthusiasts to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ethiosss.org.et\/history\">form<\/a>\u00a0the Ethiopian Space Science Society. The Society, which has recruited over 10,000 members since being launched in 2004, achieved the milestone of establishing East Africa\u2019s only space observatory facility on the 3,200-metre hills of Entoto.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With work currently ongoing regarding the development of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/africanews.space\/ethiopia-to-launch-first-satellite-next-year\/\">Ethiopian first satellite<\/a>, the national space policy has been passed at the most appropriate time.
